Writing an analytical essay is an effortful task; not always it is possible to do it without outside assistance. One of the most effective ways to learn about something is looking through numerous examples. That is why, students use essay samples as a source of information for their writings. Such samples are easy to find: you can get them on the Internet, turn to a special writing company or go to the library.
However, it’s not as easy as you think because even such a simple procedure may take much effort. Using a ready sample is not everything you need for writing an elaborate analytical essay. You are to identify high-quality examples out of dozens found on the Internet or somewhere else. The tips below will help you to find a worthy sample:
The first paragraph should attract the reader’s attention and make him or her want to read it further. A thesis statement should be apt and accurate, it must contain background information about the essay. Sometimes, a provocative question in the first paragraph can make the introduction more expressive. Long paragraph at the beginning will never do, laconism is a sure winner.
Body paragraphs are the main part of an essay; they should contain a topic sentence, which serves as an introduction to the paragraph itself. The following part is the analysis of a fact or statement; there should be evidence which supports the argument. Make sure that body paragraphs cover the topic to the full extent. Examples and quotations make an essay more effective and remarkable, BUT within reasonable measures! Make certain that they are appropriate and really necessary there.
The closing part must sum up all the facts and arguments; it should correspond to the introduction: give answers to the questions (if there are any), offer a solution and put a point at the end, so to say. Like the introduction, the conclusion should be laconic and neat.
A high-quality essay never contains any mistakes – stylistic and especially grammar and spelling. If you find any misprints or errors in the sample you’ve got, you’d better search for another one.
The size of a sample should also be taken into account. Very short ones are scant and cannot cover the topic to the full extent. Another extreme is very long “treatises”; they are sure to contain much unnecessary information which can make your writing less readable.
